Playground

Our new play area is open! We held a wonderful opening event on Sunday 26th September, with hundreds of people from local families joining to celebrate with Conservative Councillor Brian Marcell and see local celebrity, David Gandy, cutting the ‘ribbon’ - a paper chain made and decorated by a Year 2 class at nearby Sheen Mount Primary School. Refreshments were generously provided by local pubs – The Plough and The Victoria, with prizes donated by our wonderful local Toy Shop Pandemonium and sporting equipment supplier Sheen Sports. We were also treated to a sing-along with the Sheen Scout Group and wonderful kids’ entertainment from Mr Twizzle . It was a fantastic day and really brought the community together.

See our film below, capturing the highlights of the day, recorded and edited by talented local filmmaker, Laura Starbuck, of Laura’s Little Film Company. you can see more of her work or get in touch with her here.

The new play area and nature trail provide local residents and visitors to the area with a new facility for them to enjoy and experience nature whilst playing outdoors. The nature trail will provide educational benefits through interpretation boards and would allow local families to mix nature with education whilst visiting East Sheen Common. The play area will benefit the local community, by providing a new space for local children and nearby school children to play in a woodland environment. we hope to bring communities together and increase the play provision within the local area.

We commissioned natural play specialists, Earth Wrights to build the playground, designed to be in keeping with the natural area with minimal disruption to wildlife. The new equipment is made of natural materials and designed to be used by children up until the age of 12. The new playground will allow children to be able to play within a natural habitat, encouraging more children to be outside and play in a woodland setting.
