Friends of Sheen Common aims to protect, conserve and enhance Sheen Common as a place of freedom, recreation, education, sport and enjoyment for the long term benefit of all sections of the local community, whilst also protecting and conserving its natural environment

About Sheen Common

East Sheen Common, also known as Sheen Common, is an area of public open space in East Sheen in the London Borough of Richmond upon Thames. It is adjacent to Richmond Park and separated from it by a brick wall which forms the park's boundary. A gate, Bog Gate, provides pedestrian access between the park and the Common. Since 1908, the Common has been owned by The National Trust. It is currently leased to Richmond upon Thames Borough Council.

The Common covers 75 acres (30ha), consisting of woodland, a cricket field, tennis courts and a bowling green, and is a surviving part of the much greater area of common land that existed in the local area before Richmond Park was created.

NOTICE:

We are pleased to inform you that as of Saturday 22 June, the inclusive toilet in the pavilion will be opened for public use on weekends. We are starting with weekends as this is the busiest time for the site but this will be kept under review. Permanent signage has been ordered but we will arrange for posters to be installed in the meantime.

The woodland is managed to encourage wildlife on the site - foxes and numerous bird species inhabit this area and there is a small seasonal pond

About Friends of Sheen Common

The Friends of Sheen Common (“FoSC”) was established in its current form in 2015.  It was previously known as the Sheen Common Friends Sports and Recreation Association but changed its name in 2015 when it ceased to be a group exclusively representing sporting interests.  At that time the group broadened its remit to represent all areas and users of the Common including those interested in sports, the woodlands and the common in general.

Membership of the FoSC is open to any person who is interested in the Common and in the work of the FoSC.  Membership is currently free of charge.  The members of the FoSC have elected a Committee which meets regularly, at least 4 times a year, to conduct the business of the FoSC.

The Committee aims to act as a representative body in dealings with the London Borough of Richmond Upon Thames and the National Trust.  Engagement with local residents on all issues regarding the Common is encouraged.
